Although summer has pretty much arrived and most college students are enjoying their summer, incoming Freshmen (including me) are in a daze and trying to get so much done before moving down to Tuscaloosa.
Did I mention it’s less than three months away? Here are some burning questions the Class of 2022 has that not even Google can solve:
1. How will I get used to living in a new place?
A lot of us incoming freshmen are from all over, which isn’t anything new to Bama. However, those who are coming from colder climates and/or more urban settings are nervous and curious how easy it will be to adapt to a new culture? Nervous and curious, but still very exciting.
2. Alabama Rush Week?
OK, so this isn’t a really specific question, however, I know I am not the only one totally lost. Even though the websites and brochures are very helpful, it seems like an overwhelming process. Overwhelming, but still very exciting!
3. What’s a football game like?
So maybe not all incoming freshmen are oblivious to the infamous Bryant-Denny Stadium, but I sure am. A number of collegiate football games’ dress attire consists of jerseys and jeans, however, is Bama the exception? I am puzzled, is it like formal or Sunday’s best? But who wouldn’t want to dress up to watch the best football team play? Puzzling, but still very exciting!
4. FOOD...?!
If you’re a gluten-free child like me or prefer to stay away from dairy, soy, nuts, etc. I’m curious, Is there anything we can eat besides salad (because salad is always the go-to, unfortunately). And there is only so much information is given about the meal plan. At least we know for sure there is a Starbucks to cure our fatty “coffee” drink cravings. Curious, but still very exciting!
5. What do we actually need for our dorm rooms?
If you are part of the Class of 2022 Facebook page, you’ve seen the countless postings of people selling things like headboards and mini-fridges from their previous year at school. With that being said, I’m a bit perplexed, what do we actually need? How can we learn from others’ mistakes? From what I have seen and from what I assume, others have too. For example, are headboards really necessary? Perplexing, but still very exciting!
But I guess that’s part of it, isn’t it. Feeling nervous, curious, overwhelmed, puzzled, perplexed, and confused, but still very excited. Not knowing what to expect, and not having a clue are new for me. My mother was a middle school and high school teacher so I grew up going with her to school functions and spent time in her classroom. I knew where everything was before I attended the schools, so I never experienced what other incoming middle schoolers and high schoolers felt.
With high school graduation quickly approaching, saying goodbye isn’t an issue for me. I’ve always looked forward to the future and embraced it, but this time, it is safe to say that I am really excited and ready to roll with the tide.
