One of the best activities to do during the fall is apple picking. It's festive and fun and a whole experience. But what happens every time you go apple picking? You end up with way too many apples. And let's be real, there's only so many apple pies you can make before you get a little bored. Here are a few ways to spice up your fall palate.

1. Apple pie panini

Think all the sweetness of a nice crisp apple with all the satisfaction of a grilled cheese. Replace the cheese with cream and pop in some apples on a nice cinnamon bread, and you're ready to go.

2. Chorizo and apple rice salad

Spicy chorizo and sweet apples are a match made in heaven in this fall twist on a burrito bowl.

3. Almond butter apple nachos

Who doesn't love nachos? Replace the salty chips with sweet apple slices and all the typical fixings with other sweet toppings and you've got yourself a nice plate of dessert nachos.

4. Quinoa apple cheddar soup

Rich, creamy, and enough flavor to make this a meal you'll carry into the winter, too.

5. Apple fries

Crispy apples baked with crunchy sugar and cinnamon. The perfect fall snack.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots.
