Unexpected Things To Do This Summer

We anticipate summer break as soon as we begin classes in the fall, but when it comes down to it, we always seem to choke and don't know how to spend our summer wisely. There's actually so much pressure to have an amazing summer that we basically get in a slump where we binge watch shows on Netflix until 4 a.m., and then don't want to get out of bed the next, and it keeps repeating. If you're having the same old "Netflix Binge Summer" here are a few suggestions on what to do with friends or your significant other.

1. Put in a movie you and your friends have never seen, mute it, then make up the conversations the actors of having. You might get tired of this 15 minutes into the movie, but I'm sure those 15 minutes will be extremely funny if you and your friend have no filter.

2. People watch and decide what Hogwarts house each person would be in. You could even make up a back story for each person and why you think they'd be in that house.

3. Play "Mario Kart" blindfolded and have your friend tell you what to do. Have them record it to so you can see how bad you did!

4. Have your partner or friend fake propose to you in public to see what happens. Maybe you'll get a free dessert!

5. Get really dressed up and go eat at a fast food restaurant. I'm talking black tie, not that dress you just bought from Forever 21.

6. Go through your friends old Facebook photos and roast them. RIP to the days of overly edited pictures.

7. Go out and pretend to be famous and have your friend be your bodyguard. "Please don't touch me, I'm famous."

8. Squirt gun fight in the house. I'm not talking super soakers here, OK? I just mean buy those dollar-store squirt guns and chase each other through the house. It's actually extremely fun.

9. Car wash. You're being productive all while getting soaked because your friend aimed the hose at you.

10. Buy a kiddie pool and put bath bombs in it. This is actually super fun and you'll end up smelling nice.

11. Water balloon fight. Never underestimate a good water balloon fight.

12. Paint each other's backs. OK, how cute is this, though?

13. Make a box fort. I can finally live out my dream of making the fort from "Out of the Box."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
