The third and final presidential debate aired on October 19, and finally, the issue of abortion laws were acknowledged. It was just for a short amount of time, but there certainly could've been an entire debate on just this issue, I believe.
I, personally, am pro-choice for a number of reasons, but I understand where someone who is pro-life is coming from- religious or not. However, whenever I speak with someone whom is pro-life, I'm immediately criticized and have been called a murderer once or twice.
Here's what I think people are pro-life should understand:
1. They're our bodies. I am in control of my own body and will make the decision myself and with those close to me. Not what a fat, old, white man tells me to do.
Some may argue that the baby could also make the same argument but... it's a fetus. A ball of cells cannot coherently make thoughts. If someone told you what to do with your body, you'd be livid.
2. "If you can't afford a baby, you shouldn't be having sex."
Okay, no. There are ways to prevent pregnancy. I'm sure if you're a guy and saying this, you'd regret it if some policy requiring this was ever put into place. Which it won't because that's some crazy stuff.
3. Sometimes, abortions are necessary to maintain a mother's health
If an expecting mother finds out that carrying to term could possibly kill her, she should have the right to decide if she wants to live or not.
4. Something could be awfully wrong with the baby, leading to an incredibly troubled life.
There are a number of things that could happen when a fetus is in utero. Many of these are severe diseases and disorders (genetic or not) which can lead to an early death or an awful life for the child. Why put someone through suffering and pain when it can be prevented?
5. As a result of rape, the woman gets pregnant.
As if it wasn't awful enough, you're left with something to remember the terrible, degrading thing that happened to you.
6. If you can't afford a child, and aren't able to get an abortion, a family could very easily fall into poverty and just add to the debt.
Babies cost money. A lot of money. If someone doesn't have that, to begin with, and can't get an abortion because of the state they live in, they will only fall more and more into debt and cost the state more money. Think of this repeated over and over.
7. "Just put the child up for adoption!"
How cruel is that? There are nearly 400,000 children in foster care, and ~101,000 in the system available for adoption. 32% of those will have to wait over 3 years to be adopted, or may never be adopted.

8. "You can't have an abortion, I don't agree with it!"
"You want to raise this kid, then?"
