I understand not wanting to talk about politics around others because it’s an extremely touchy and personal thing to discuss. However, I will never understand how one can sit there and say, “I don’t know...I’m just not really into politics.” Politics affect your entire life!
Every policy change, every law passed: that is the world you have to live in! I do not understand how one can blatantly ignore the news when it is so easily accessible.
When I hear someone say they do not care at all about politics, I just hear someone willing to be ignorant.
Why don’t you care about the governmental decisions that affect your body and your being? I’m not saying you have to be deeply passionate about politics or become a lawyer, but maybe just stay up to date on the news.
It is so easy to just ignore the reality of the political climate in the United States right now, but it's important to be aware of all that is happening. Your voice matters. In the United States, we have the right to learn about our government and educate ourselves in order to make our voices heard. You are totally taking the freedoms you are granted advantage if you deliberately choose to not get involved.
Learn what’s going on! Call your senators, vote, protest — do not believe that your voice does not matter. We all have a say in what goes on in our politics, and we should all take advantage of that opportunity. Why settle when you can work to change policies that affect you directly? Of course, you do not have to talk about politics all the time, but at least have the power to know what is going on.
Become involved if you want to have a say in your life.
