Country music is truly my heart and soul. I was raised on it. I grew up in a small town in the South Jersey Pine Barrens, and country music was all I knew until I got into middle school.
There are the classics, like Alan Jackson, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney. There are the classic ladies of country music, like Reba, Dolly Parton, and Faith Hill. There are the ones everyone knows, like Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Thomas Rhett and Florida Georgia Line.
But like any genre, country music has some seriously underrated talent. They are those people you hear on the radio but never really give a second thought.
But you should. They are the hidden gems, and to me, sometimes they are the most relatable.
So I'm going to give you the low down on some people you need to stop what you're doing and listen to, right now.
1. Luke Combs
You probably know his song "Hurricane" because it was constantly on the radio for a while. But his album, "This One's For You", is EVERYTHING. The songs are incredible and so many people can relate.
Pro tip: look up his song, "Beer Never Broke My Heart", on YouTube. It's live and incredible. You're welcome.
2. Chase Rice
I'm die hard for this guy. I've seen him live three times and he literally just keeps getting better. He's a co-writer behind Florida Georgia Line's hit "Cruise". You've definitely heard his song, "Ready, Set, Roll".
But he's so much more than that. He writes amazing songs about pretty much everything, from love to being hungover. Trust me, he is amazing.
3. LANCO
I'll easily give credit where credit is due. One of my friends really brought these guys to my attention. I heard them on the radio, and I thought they were good. But it wasn't until I saw one of their songs on his Snapchat story that I really dove in. And I have no regrets.
They have a kind of unique sound but in the best way, and it gives me classic country vibes sometimes. "Hallelujah Nights" is my current jam by them, and I'm obsessed.
4. Jon Langston
This one is for my sister. She loves him more than literally any artist, even the ones we've grown up on. This guy is a true newbie. Just a few weeks ago, he got signed for a record deal.
But if you listen to all his music, you'll wonder why it took so long. He writes amazing music. He writes some amazing potential wedding songs in my opinion. Just check him out, you won't regret it.
5. Lee Brice
This was a toss-up for me. He's well known for sure. But I still think he's underrated. There definitely isn't enough people talking about him or hyping him up.
So I'm going to do it.Honestly, I could cry listening to some of his songs but in the best possible way. I feel like he puts his heart and soul into every song and I can literally feel it when I listen and sing them. I just want to make Lee Brice great again. Who's with me? If you think I'm wrong, listen to "Boy."
You will realize everything I'm saying.Country music is everything to me. Now trust me, I listen to plenty of other things, but this is my soul. This is like home for me. I always come back to country music.
I've been to more country music concerts than anything else. I want the artist out there who aren't hyped up on the radio 24/7 to get the praise they deserve. Do yourself a favor and search them all on Spotify. You won't regret it.
