Never Underestimate The Small Things In Life

We fall in love with our partners for every small thing they do for us.

This past weekend, I woke up feeling like death.

No exaggeration.

I woke up 5 hours later than I usually do despite having gone to bed at my normal bedtime. Everything hurt. I felt as though an 18 wheeler had plowed me over. I had no desire to even get out of bed. For those who know me, you know that it takes a lot to keep me down - my cure for EVERYTHING is to keep moving.

When I finally woke up around 11 am, I had no energy whatsoever. My boyfriend, without being asked, got up and started cooking breakfast. I kept dozing in and out. He cleaned up my entire apartment. Folded clothes, straightened stray items, washed all the dishes - the whole nine yards.

He ended up leaving to go back home several hours later than he had anticipated.

He didn’t have to help. He didn’t even have to stay as long as he did. But this small act of kindness meant the world to me.

We go throughout our daily lives in such a rush - always in a hurry to get from point A to point B. We often forget to enjoy the small things in life.

More so, we forget to do the small things for our partners. The small things are the reason we fall in love. There is never one big decisive moment that determines whether or not we fall in love with our significant other, we fall in love over the course of however long it takes with the small things they do.

Never underestimate the power of random acts of kindness. Hold the door open for your partner, compliment their outfit, thank him for helping you with something, tell her she looks beautiful. Small acts of kindness make the world go around. Something so small could have the biggest impact on your partner's day.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
