In case you haven't heard yet, Rent will be coming to Fox later this year. It follows many other live movie performances, most notable being "Grease Live". For some people, this news is fantastic. For others, their eyes just won't stop rolling.
Personally, I'm intrigued. But the second "Rent" gets messed with, I feel personally attacked. "Grease" and the "Sound of Music" are cutesy musicals that can do well with a star-studded cast. This time it's different.
If you've read this far, that means you probably care more than most about musical theatre. And if you haven't already, you'll start lying awake at night hoping they don't cast a stupid pretty-boy as Roger.
We're a special breed of human and I'm not afraid to admit that I've emailed Fox a few times with some cast suggestions:
Ben Platt as Mark
From the goofy guy in Pitch Perfect to the star of Dear Evan Hanson, Ben Platt has a talent no one expected from him.
Jeremy Jordan as Roger
It's pretty often that Jeremy gets the opportunity to play a role where the character does nothing but feels bad for themselves. Here is no exception.
Naya Rivera as Mimi
Naya's attitude and vocal power can follow and compete with all of the Mimi's that came before her.
Lea Michele as Maureen
Her looks always seem to match her roles to those of Idina Menzel, but she stands out among others with her personality. She makes the room stop for her and can influence a crowd to moo with no problem.
Jennifer Hudson as Joanne
I just want an excuse to listen to her sing. Angelic.
Leslie Odom Jr. as Benny
He's recently become a household name as Aaron Burr in Hamilton. His ability to lead unapologetically will make him the best Benny possible.
Wilson Jermaine Heredia as Angel
Sometimes, you can't mess with the originals.
Jamie Foxx as Collins
Jamie is the lovable and friendly guy that we could count on Collins to be. He's a little older than Collins in the show but still has the energy to do it justice.
