UAlbany, The World Truly Within Reach

I hated college my first semester. I felt alone, scared, and all over the place. I could not find a group to fit in with and classes were a struggle. I thought many times about transferring. I am so happy that I did not.

Attending The University at Albany, State University of New York was one of the best decisions of my life. Nothing will ever compare to the four years I had as an undergraduate.

I have made numerous connections to other students and the friendships that I have made are irreplaceable. Although not all friendships last, I am glad for the memories I made and for the few friends and acquaintances I keep in touch with. I will never forget going downtown getting drunk and just partying with random strangers. Staying in on snow days to cuddle with roomies and watch movies. Studying in the Dutch Tower lounge area as we yelled during quite hours. Late night walks to the fountain and to Indian Pond.

The clubs on campus not only helped me grow as a student but as a leader. The University at Albany Dance Council let me express myself as a dancer and choreographer. The friendships I made through that club hold a special place in my heart. Getting to witness other student clubs such as The Sketchy Characters Club perform skits in the campus center and getting to see Organized C.H.A.O.S. perform around campus were awesome.

Student Affairs held great barbecues during finals week to carnival events and block parties. I loved receiving free t-shirts and food randomly in the campus center. ResLife held awesome weekly events to talk about important topics such as sexual awareness and fun activities like watching movies and making jewelry. Volunteering at the Disability Resource Center was truly a pleasure for me. I was able to help students with testing needs and it was rewarding.

The professors had a tremendous impact on me. I not only had a fantastic education experience but had some of the most kindest professors who I still keep in touch with to help me further my education.

It would take me too long to write down everything that I loved about UAlbany. If there is any advice I could give someone, do not take your time there for granted. It goes FAST. Make lifelong friendships, go to a party or two, study for those exams (but do not overwhelm yourself), talk to professors, go to the fountain and hang with your best friends, join a club or two, experience downtown, get drunk, get an awesome roomie, eat a good (or bad) meal in the campus center/dining halls, stay in touch with a professor, take that class you want to take; The World is Truly Within Your Reach at UAlbany.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
