What Every Incoming Freshman Needs To Bring With Them
JBrandt

Ah, freshmen. So eager to learn and be ready to be on your own. I bet you some of you are so excited to move out and finally be out in the real world by yourselves. All the late night adventures you’ll have and all the spontaneous road trips you’ll take. Well, get all those thoughts out of your head because college is hard work, and lucky for you, I’ve advised a list as to what every college freshmen should bring with them.

1. TV:

You probably won’t have time to watch it because you’ll be covered with homework from head to toe, but it makes for a good centerpiece in your dorm.

2. Tissues, lots and lots of tissues:

Two words: Finals. Week. Thank me later.

3. USB:

I cannot tell you how many times my laptop has failed me and luckily I had files backed up onto my USB that saved me from getting a zero.

4. Umbrella:

This weather is crazy. One minute it’s hot and the next minute you’re up to your knees in water trying to swim your way to class. I also recommend bringing a canoe - if it fits in your car.

5. Good Walking Shoes:

Ever heard of the freshmen 15? People say it’s when you gain 15 pounds your freshmen year but it actually stands for the 15 miles you have to walk every day because your classes are nowhere near each other (By the way, I highly recommend some Chacos).

6. First Aid Kit:

Just in general this is probably something everyone should bring with them. College is a scary place man.

7. Planner/Calendar:

Don’t be like me and miss your psychology final because you think it’s on Thursday but it’s actually on Tuesday. Seriously though, a planner will save you from so much stress.

8. 10 ft Phone Charger:

Sometimes you just really want to charge your phone from across the room while you’re sitting on the toilet.

9. Mattress Topper:

Literally the definition of heaven. When you’ve been studying and cramming all day, you’ll need something soft to cry yourself to sleep on because college is so hard.

10. Coffee Pot:

When you’ve been studying for 48 hours straight and it's 2 a.m. and have to wake up at 6 a.m. to continue studying, that coffee pot will surely be a blessing.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
