Hot weather uncovers the truth

The weather has been slightly off for the past couple of months... like 80 degree temperatures in April and then highs of 55 degrees in June. Fortunately (or unfortunately for some of us), that has kind of broken and we're finally experiencing the wonderful world of heat waves. While it's mild now, the last week was hot and I can fully expect the temperatures getting just as high in the coming weeks. Everyone has different reactions to heat waves and the impending joy —or doom— it brings.

1. The Tanner

One glimpse of the sun or a feel of the weather and this person is running for the tanning oil. The tanner will use any batch of sunlight or heat wave to give them some great color.

2. The Complainer

Hates the sun, hates the weather, hates everything about summer. (Basically me).

3. The Lover

Has said: "I can't wait for summer" or "My natural element is over 70 degrees" or "This is the perfect weather" more than once.

4. The "I'm going to get stuff done" person

As if the weather encourages them to be productive.

5. The "I'm going to get stuff done and then never follows through because it's too hot" person

As if someone thinks the weather can actually encourage them to be productive.

6. The Beach-Goer

There is only one solution to the heat wave for this person: the beach! Which, why would you do that because it's overly packed, very hot, has horrible water quality and is two hours away.

7. The Sleeper

Heat is a direct catalyst to lack of energy, laziness, and sleep (according to this person).

8. The Easily-Burned

Just stay inside, honey.

9. The Explorer

No, now is not the time to go hiking/traveling/road tripping/etc., it's too damn hot to even move! Why are these people so adventurous at this specific moment?

10. The Sweater

Even with the least strenuous activity, they receive waterfalls of sweat.

11. The Non-Sweater

Even with the most physically straining activity, they will never sweat. What is their secret? How do they do it?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
