Lecture halls bring together a large quantity of people in a contained place for quite a bit of time. Most people keep to themselves, text and occasionally scribble down notes. Unfortunately, other people aren’t as low-key. These seven types of people are hard to miss.
1. The Eater
Whether it be a bag of chips or a full-on rotisserie chicken, this person is distracting as hell. The hall is filled with the fumes of food, which makes your stomach begin to make embarrassing hungry noises. You hate this person, but you also want to be them. The existential crisis that this brings forward is too unbearable.
2. The Best Friends
These two are hard to miss. They maintain a constant stream of whispering and giggling throughout the class. You assume they’ll stop once the professor eyes them, but somehow they keep on prattling. You admire their perseverance and passion for living, however misplaced it may be.
3. The Music Lover
Music is great, but not necessarily when you are forced to listen to it. This person just doesn’t understand the concept of low volume. Maybe, just maybe this wouldn’t be so annoying if it didn’t always end up being the people with poor music taste. This person needs to consider that not everyone wants to have screamo buzzing in their ears at eight in the morning.
4. The Giggler
You can’t even be mad at this person. They’re either watching videos of dogs on Facebook or Vines and just can’t keep it together. Their entertainment with it is kind of endearing with a pinch of annoying.
5. The Online Shopper
Usually a girl, this person spends the whole class adding things to her basket on multiple sites. Will she end up purchasing? Probably not, but virtual window shopping sure is a way to make time fly. Almost like a yawn, she makes you want to join her in feeding that shopping addiction.
6. The Sleeper
This person is just amusing. They give you great content for your Snapchat story and an excuse to caption a picture with “same.” They may be silent, snoring or even making soft little moaning noises. Overall, an embarrassing type to be, but a fun one to witness.
7. The Listener
This type may be the most annoying of all. They sit, pay attention to the professor, take thorough notes and genuinely look interested. They are not forcing themselves on any of your senses, but somehow they make you feel the worst. They induce an overwhelming sense of guilt that they are doing exactly what you should be doing. We all endeavor to be this person.
At the end of the day, we have to admit to being each type at least once. We never seem to find things annoying when we are the ones doing them, but nevertheless they still are. Never have shame in your lecture game, but maybe stop bothering the people around you.
