Oh, New York. Truly the city of dreams. Exploration is one of the greatest things we can ever take part in and when it comes down to it, NYC is one of the best places for this. Here are two places full of new art and creativity that you might just want to check out if you ever get the opportunity!
1. Bowery Poetry
During Thanksgiving break, I had the opportunity to read a poem that I wrote at an open mic night for the first time. Honestly, I never really knew about the open mic nights in the city and it's pretty sad because I'm a born and raised New York girl, but being there made me want to go back again and again. Bowery Poetry hosts open mic nights every Sunday, located at 308 Bowery. Many talented voices come out and speak. Tickets usually range from 7 to 10 dollars. I think this is a dope spot for those into spoken word and those who love calm settings. Go and enjoy!
2. Harlem Nights
I actually went here to support my God sister at her performance, and after missing it and getting there late, who knew there were more singers and rappers who still had stage time? They all did an amazing job and it made me realize how much talent is in this city of dreams. This setting allows you to get to listen to everyone's art and vibe to new music that the rest of the world hasn't heard yet. If you need inspiration, this is the place for you. They also have a bar but I am not 21, so I happily sat in the back and heard these beautiful artists get their music out into the crowd.
There are many more diverse places to be seen in New York City, and as soon as I get the chance to make my way to each and every one of them, I'll be sure to write about them all. But, in case you're from out of town and might ever visit just make sure to make a stop at either of these places so you can get a glimpse of what the east coast night life has in store for you!
