In chapter six, Bob literally showed me the true meaning of persistence. He went above and beyond what I would have done, which for my character doesn't say very much, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit that. Bob wanted to go to law school so he could become a lawyer. Bob is denied of course. So what does he do?
He goes and speaks to the dean. The dean of course tells him he has been denied, and there is nothing that he can do. So Bob just goes and sits on the bench outside the dean's office for FIVE DAYS! He wanted to show the dean that he was up for the task and waited on a bench all day, for FIVE days. Finally after five days the dean told him, "Go buy your books."
This chapter really hit me hard. I give up too easily on things. Never in my life would I have the courage to sit on a bench alone for five days not knowing if I would ever get into a school. I don't even think I would do it if I was with a group of people not knowing the outcome.
With that view point I think that it shows the worst part of my character. If I give up all the time when things get difficult I won't get anywhere, AT ALL. Perseverance is something not only I am lacking, but I feel a huge amount of this generation is lacking. We need to step up and try harder in everything that we do.
Let's be more like Bob.
