In the past weeks since the start of the New Year, it seems that some aspects of 2017 have managed to linger on. One such aspect is the somewhat cult based fascination the GOP has on discrediting any political article written in the so called, “Failing New York Times”. In point of fact The New York Times, like a great number of publications have experienced a “Trump Bump”.
This phrase has come to mean the number of subscribers that has increased because of articles written about the Trump Administration. However, The New York Times has written a great deal of articles that have not only captured Trump’s likeness, but the seemingly hectic times America has come to face since Trump took office last January. Journalism has managed to adapt to the era of Donald Trump and how he attempted to dictate the type of coverage he wants.
Journalists however have managed to over come the usual plight of being biased in their articles by simply stating the facts. For one thing, the GOP has been giving reporters the run around since the start of Trump’s presidency. For starters, this is no where near right for reporters because the press is part of the territory of political office. Politicians are not immune to the scrutiny of their constituents or the media.
However, Trump is relentless in his scrutiny of the media, so much so that in a recent tweet he said, “I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!” In the spirit of not wanting to be left out the nominations for what he has called, The Fakies, Late Show host Stephen Colbert purchased a For Your Consideration billboard in Times Square. Some of the categories include, Outstanding Achievement in Parroting George Soros’ Talking Points, Best Sound Mixing, Best Chex Mixing, Least Breitbarty and slew of other categories.
In these times of media scrutiny and the rise of nonsensical reporting from sites like TownHall.com and The Gateway Pundit, these are some of the battles that make the war against the mainstream media seem like a victory for them. However, the war has shifted from the press to books, particularly Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff.
The main reason Fire and Fury has come under great controversy for the way it characterizes The White House and the way many current and former White House officials have spoken about how Trump runs the country. However, this book’s publication shouldn’t have been the catalyst for this type of political excitement. In one minute this book has managed to capture what a great deal of media organizations have been doing from the time he announced his candidacy in the spring of 2015.
Michael Wolff’s book gets into the nitty gritty of The White House which is more than some reporters can get but there is very little speculation about the writing of Fire and Fury and the mainstream media. This book is both a blessing and a curse because it gets at what reporters may not be able to. In reality, it seems that this book is shifting more people over to the conversation of whether or not Donald Trump is really fit to be the President.
For the last year, the mainstream media has been building the case for why Donald Trump is unfit to be President of the United States. What we aren’t seeing is significant proof of why he is fit to be President and that is the concerning part. Wolff’s books details a White House in chaos and disarray with all members of it pushing their own agenda’s. The New York Times has managed to keep an eye on what comes next, Michael Wolff has compiled 2017 into a 336-page book, and Donald Trump is claiming that truth is based on lies. In terms of political openness in the Trump Administration, what do we really believe from this President?
And that is the most chilling thought about the final three years of his presidency.
