Trump's Relationship With The Female Press Is Troubling And Disturbing
ABC News

From talking about Megyn Kelly’s period to Mika’s bleeding facelift, Trump has a strange obsession with female reporters and their blood. It ranges from grabbing women by the you-know-where on tape to talking about Megyn Kelly bleeding during the election, and Trump revealed his truly perverted view of women, particularly reporters, during the election; plus, clearly, there was an audience for it because he still got elected.

Trump always attacks the press because he can’t stand any negative coverage of himself. However, this is something rather unavoidable when you’re the President of the United States. Particularly when you’re as controversial as Trump. But he doesn’t usually attack the appearances of individual male reporters (although there are exceptions). When he attacks newspapers he talks about how they’re failing and losing subscribers (whether it’s true or not). However, whenever he attacks women reporters, he doesn’t criticize their writing style or articles. He goes for blood, literally pointing out to the country that this reporter is just a woman, someone who bleeds every month and who is superficial enough to get face lifts.

It’s very disturbing that Trump treats the female press like this, but obviously, there are people who agree with him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to get away with doing it again and again and again. And sometimes he hides his attacks as compliments. For example, last week when Trump was on the phone with the Irish Prime Minister he took a break to make an Irish reporter, named Caitriona Perry, introduce herself. He said she had a “beautiful smile” and that she must treat the Prime Minister well. Although this may seem harmless to the average observer, it’s an attack.

So many women have walked down the street and have been told by some strange man that they have “great legs” or “a beautiful smile.” The fact that the President of our country serves as a reminder of these experiences of harassment is very disturbing and upsetting. Besides that, the fact that Trump picked a female journalist, decided she was attractive to him, and then objectified her like she was some sort of doll is incredibly disrespectful to her and her career and she should not be treated that way.

He did something similar with Mika Brzezinski of “Morning Joe." When he went on a tweet rant about her and Joe Scarborough, he mentioned that while she was on the golf course with him, she was bleeding from a facelift. First of all, this is a disturbing and deeply personal piece of information to share if true. Second of all, it’s nonsensical. Why would someone go golfing if their face was literally bleeding? Third of all, Mika dismissed this ridiculous claim. This whole incident revealed Trump’s obsession with female journalists and blood once again.

Women not being taken seriously as reporters is unfortunately nothing new. But the fact that our President, ruler of the free world, is going along with these stereotypes should be embarrassing for all Americans.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
