Trump's Response To Charlottesville Is Basically An Angsty Teen

"Mom, do I really have to give a speech? Ughhh."

On Friday, August 11th, a group of white supremacists came together in a riot — made slightly ironic by the fact they were carrying tiki torches — where they protested basic human rights, and their ‘Oppression’.

Fun stuff.

This riot was a precursor to a protest planned for Saturday, August 12th where they would publicly oppose the removal of the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Because apparently having a nation that renounces the racist Confederacy is infringing on freedom of speech. The Confederates lost. Get over it. And while you’re at it— maybe spend some time learning to view other human beings actually as human beings. Save the hatred for later. Or better yet: Ditch it altogether.

Anyway, all tangents aside: It gets better.

Anti-racist protests took place that Saturday to oppose those Nationalists who were heard using various Nazi slogans, chanting ‘White Lives Matter’, and using the gesture I can only describe as ‘heiling Hitler’. In response to those peaceful anti-racist protests, a White Supremacist drove their car into the crowd— subsequently killing one person, and injuring many others.

Sounds horrifying, right? Oh, it gets worse.

Remember when the school shootings started a few years ago, and with every single shooting, Former President Obama gave heartfelt speeches? Ones where you could see that these horrible acts of violence were affecting him just as much as it was tearing our country apart?

If you don’t remember, here’s the first speech from 2012 in response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary:

Now, let's compare that to our current President’s response:

President Donald Trump seems to be treating this situation with the empathy and sincerity of an angsty teenager being told to smile for his family’s annual Christmas Card. His tone shows nothing but sheer apathy, and he seems to be forcing the words out.

It’s like he’s saying, “This is horrible, and I totally don’t condone this… but yes I do… But wait! No! I was kidding… No, I wasn’t.”

If this is how our leader acts in the face of internal terrorism, what does that say about his supporters? About our country? About us?

Do we really want our country to be run by a grown man with the entitlement and demeanor of a teenager being told to pick up his clothes?

Trump: the problems aren’t on “many sides.” They are on one side. And that side lost in 1945.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
