I'll preface this by saying please don't JUUL, it definitely isn't good for you and there's no sense in developing a nicotine addiction to a device we know so little about. Now that we have established common sense, we can discuss the fact that our President, Donald Trump, seems to be attempting to move forward with a ban on flavored e-cigarettes like JUULS. There have been over 450 cases of individuals with possible lung illnesses due to vaping e-cigarettes, and the sixth death due to lung disease from vaping has just been recently recorded.
E-Cigarettes like JUULS don't seem like something to be taken lightly. They haven't even existed long enough for us to have completed studies on their long term effects, and according to these recent deaths and illnesses, they appear to be fast-acting on the body. However, an issue with only six recorded deaths doesn't seem like the most productive fight and use of our President's time when there have been more mass shootings than days in the year so far. Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders responded to a CBNC tweet announcing Trump's proposed ban on e-cigarettes with the phrase "Now do AR-15S."
It's interesting that Trump would choose to spend his time on the abolishment of vaping, when six deaths pales in comparison to the number of students who have been terrorized at school by gunmen with weapons they should never own, and the number of families torn apart at the border while seeking asylum. His political choices are continuously consistent with his platform and with doing everything in his power to maintain it, at the expense of people suffering from predicaments that are overdue to be addressed. Without his anti-immigrant fanbase and the support of the NRA, it's safe to say Trump wouldn't have made it nearly as far.
Another example of Donald Trump paying more attention to popular culture than real problems was his strong interest in and successful petition to free rapper ASAP Rocky from Swedish jail. Despite his racist rhetoric and actions, Trump has always maintained that "the blacks" love him, and his determination to free ASAP was just another component to his delusions and an effort to do something popular culture might support. Just another reason to look forward to the 2020 election.
