I had written a previous article about how I have never voted in an election because of fear. However, I have made it a goal of mine this year to keep up with politics so I can not only gain more knowledge about our political world but gain more confidence to vote.
Anywho, I am sitting at a diner before I go to my doctor's appointment, just grabbing a quick bite to eat. On the news pops up our President Donald Trump (shocker). Usually, it always news about something he tweets, or saying something inappropriate, or some sort of action that seems ridiculous. When I looked up at the news, I could not believe what I saw that was revealed about our own President; he had mentioned that Haiti and African countries are basically "sh*thole" countries (this information can be found in new sources like the one I posted below).

Trump was in office talking about immigration policies when he implied that individuals from Haiti and African nations should not be in the United States. This not only stirred anger for those from these so-called "sh*thole" countries, but have caused controversy among those who look to the President to provide warmth and protection.
What was not only shocking to me but many individuals across the United States was that he denied saying these comments even though individuals at the meeting where he said it heard him. Some, on the other hand, say that his words were misinterpreted.
My question for Trump is that being the United State's president, how can you say something so racist and hurtful? Going further, even if you have not said it, don't you think there is a better way to approach this kind of behavior even if the accusations are false? Tweeting won't help this time, Mr. President.
If you do not like people coming to America from certain places, that is your opinion. However, being that you are a leader of the United States, it is extremely disrespectful to call any country a "sh*thole." You could not think of a more appropriate term to use if you wanted to call those countries a certain something?
I do want to ask you though, what gives you the right to call a country a sh*thole? What makes the United States less of a sh*thole country than any other country? Did you ever think of that?
I will be honest that I am guilty of making false assumptions about many areas of the world. Since graduating college however and taking the time to try and explore countries like Israel that I have made false accusations about, I can honestly say that I am glad to have experienced that trip.
Throughout my college career, I have met students that were not only from Haiti but from many parts of the world from Nigeria to cities like Beijing, the list can go on.
My point is, no matter what country, city, continent, capital, etc. someone comes from, what makes their place a sh*thole and ours not? The U.S. has just as many problems as any other area might.
What you said, Mr. President, was hurtful to not only those countries you called a "sh*thole" but many U.S. citizens felt it was extremely racist and showed terrible judgment as a leader.
I hope you can admit to whatever had seemed to happen, make it better, and stop trying to justify some of the harsh things you say and do. It is time to own up as our President.
