Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. President Trump, better yet known as the 'Cheeto' in charge of running this country, has come forth with the idea of a military parade. After experiencing France's Bastille Day, he saw it fit to ask the Pentagon for a similar event, saying "I want a parade like the one in France."
The White House claims this will show American's are united behind the military; a show of support for the troops.
France celebrates Bastille day because it honors the rejection of absolute power; Bastille Day celebrates the 1789 storming of the Bastille Prison a symbol of monarchy. This uprising ushered the start of the French Revolution. It shows the country's values. France often invites allies to march with the French Soldiers or lead the precision. It is not political. Since the parade began, it is not tied to a specific president or party.
Throwing a parade of that magnitude can be costly, with costs to transport military equipment, security, and other expenses will put a burden on taxpayers.
Take that money Trump would like to spend on a military parade and:
Make sure our troops are ready for combat, hire more VA doctors, or help military families of active and fallen soldiers. Training, funding education, or military housing.
For someone who called Democrats treasonous for not applauding him at the State of the Union address, quite apparent a military parade isn't about the military, it's about the military saluting him. It's about his ego getting a huge boost.
Instead of a military parade how about, sending relief funds to Puerto Rico where 40% of Puerto Rico still needs power, help residents rebuild their lives, they are still American, aren't they? Instead of a military parade, why not help the city of Flint, Michigan recover from the water crisis?
Lets put money into the quality of life of the men and women who serve and the families who sacrifice a lot, instead of the amusement of the president.
