The Hot Plate: Our Fearless Leader

How Trump embraces the age of Twitter Risk

The Hot Plate: Our Fearless Leader

News outlets portray Donald Trump in a variety of lights, both good and less becoming of him. Trump is quick to label certain media that cast an intense shadow of doubt on his in-office behavior as "fake" news. These networks constantly, almost daily, blast a report focusing on Trump's "tweet of the day". This also can happen multiple times in one day, since Trump touts his Twitter fingers as often as a vlogger who decides to record every event of their day.

What's mostly reported on are those tweets that can be considered childish in presentation, i.e. tweets in all caps spouting an aggressive defense against a claim recently made about him, or those that seem either too abhorrent or altogether unaware of what truth is happening in our world.

Most recently, he tweeted about how the Puerto Rican government has been exaggerating the death toll following two hurricanes that ravaged the area. He stated that the number, originally proffered as 3000 deaths, was "anywhere from 16 to 18 deaths", numbers he had come up with apparently "AFTER[sic] the storm had hit". He went on to insinuate perhaps the government had been working with the Democrats to give Trump a more negative image than he already had given his Twitter persona.

It is tweets like this that plaster our television and cellphone screens, providing the public instant access to pick apart the legitimacy of what Trump is spouting and make their own judgment calls about his morals and efforts in the office. But Trump is obviously not deterred by the "bad press" that certainly plagues his administration. In fact, he often responds to the news reports with the former style of tweet previously mentioned. The tweets angrily, aggressively, and immaturely defend Trump and his administration and attempt to shed a forceful light on the situation. However, they ultimately serve as the day's laughingstock and paint a picture of a jaded man in a position of power who isn't getting the positive attention he wants.

So yes, President Trump is, in a twisted, Black Mirror-like quality way, "fearless".

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
