There's just something about nonfiction that just drives me away from it. Maybe it's because I love stories or because reading fiction is just easier than scanning nonfiction. There is a bright side, however, as the best part of nonfiction is definitely true stories. Stories written by people from all different walks of life give you the ability to travel and experience the world through the eyes of someone else.

1. "I Am Malala" by Christina Lamb and Malala Yousafzai

If you haven't heard of Malala this is your perfect opportunity. Her words are powerful and so well put together. From her life in Afghanistan as a child to her brave fight for equal access to education for girls, Malala is truly inspiring and her book will make you see the world in a whole new way.

2. "When Breath Becomes Air" by Paul Kalanithi

I'm not going lie, this book is a lot to get through but in a good way. Paul Kalanithi's writing is so raw and personal, I felt like I was right in the middle of his world. Between cancer treatments, the birth of his daughter and his lifelong work Paul's story is a great reminder that you should never take anything in like for granted.

3. "Monique and the Mango Rains" by Kris Holloway

I read this book as an assignment and it completely blew me away. After her time as a Peace Corps volunteer, Kris Hollowaytells the story of Monique, a midwife in Mali, Africa. Covering gender roles and gender-based discrimination in Africa, "Monique and the Mango Rains" is a great reminder that we need to fight for women's rights.

4. "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson

If you'd like a real life, in-depth look at the justice system in the United States this book is perfect for you. This book opened my eyes to the harsh realities of the justice system for people of color. Recounting the stories of several African American inmates, Bryan Stevenson's fight for justice and equality is remarkable.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
