The South is a very special place. Anyone who lives here knows how magical it can be. From sweet tea to football, once you come to the South you somehow end up never leaving.

One of our defining features is the weather. Once you get through the BLAZING heat of 100+ degree Summer days, you can spend the fall, winter, and spring months enjoying the beautiful weather - not too hot and not too cold.

The snow, however, never seems to fall. And when it does you know it will only be a fleeting moment before it’s gone. If you’re a southerner, you know these ** things to be true about snow.

1. You're in disbelief when you see other places getting snow in September

2. You laugh when you hear about the Northerners having t shovel tons of snow out of their driveways

3. Snow only comes once a year, but when it does it is magical

4. The snow that Southerners get isn't really snow, it's either slush or ice. There is no in between.

5. It doesn't make sense when you hear horror stories of Northern children going to school with 3+ feet of snow on the ground

6. Schools shut down if there's even a slight chance of snow

7. EVERYTHING shuts down for a week when it finally does snow

8. Literally no one knows how to drive when it's snowing

9. Meaning that if the sky is dark and snow is falling (it doesn't even have to be sticking) that there's a good chance someone will wreck into you

10. The second a prospective "snowstorm" is discussed on the news, ALL of the milk and bread disappear from store shelves

11. The snow doesn't stick. At all.

12. When the snow comes, you don't know what to wear

13. Unless you're a new Southerner, you probably don't have snow gear

14. You probably don't have sleighs either so you use a makeshift sleigh out of a trashcan top

15. You don't really know what to do with the snow. There's not enough to build a snowman, but there's just enough to do SOMETHING with it

16. That one day of snow per year is more than enough for you

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
