As some of you may know, I have become a very spiritual person. This not only includes growing and changing in the way I think, feel, and believe, but it also changes certain lifestyle aspects that have previously been habits. I have started meditating more, I carry crystals, and I use techniques such as burning incense in order to completely relax my mind and body.
I have a few friends that are also growing spiritually, including one of my closest friends, Tyler. We always share new information or experiences that we have with each other. Thus being said, Tyler decided to share with me a Netflix documentary titled "What the Health." In this documentary, a guy uncovers tons of secrets behind our diet, and how awful it truly is. Just to share a few, apparently a meat inspector stated that the meat we eat isn't truthfully inspected the way it should, eggs are equal to 5 cigarettes a day, and milk has pus in it. Yeah, you read correctly. PUS. I didn't do tons of research on this documentary or the director of it, but it was a bit shocking to hear these things and to understand that they may very well be true.
Tyler went vegan shortly after watching the documentary. The ideas that the Netflix film exposed were too disturbing for him to remain eating the way he did. No more meat, no more animals products, no more dairy. A wholly plant-based diet. After switching, he began experiencing boosts of energy in his step and in his spiritual growth path. He couldn't really explain how it helped him; he told me I'd have to experience it myself to understand.
I flipped on the Netflix documentary, listened to the spill, and sat in my chair afterwards, wondering if I could really do this. If you know me, you know that I have an unusual liking for cheese. And bacon. And tacos. And really any sort of unhealthy food. My high metabolism allows for me to indulge in such things. I knew switching to veganism right away would be too tough for me to do. So I decided that I'd try it out for a week, and then make arrangements and changes to help my dietary habits.
To shorten things up, I couldn't do it. The first day was very good for me, and I was proud. I ate nothing but greens and veggies the entire day, and I felt totally fine with the change. But the second day came, and I was craving cheese. I made another salad, but sprinkled cheese on the top. And the very next day, well, you could say that the taco cravings are even stronger than cheese cravings. I was disappointed in my guilty pleasure, for once. I really wanted to try this vegan thing and enjoy a spiritual boost.
I didn't and couldn't go vegan for a week. But with this documentary, Tyler showed me that my eating habits needed a change. I am slowly switching to a healthier diet, but it is happening. I have added tons of veggies into my diet, I try to stay away from fast food, except for maybe once a week, and I try to stay away from processed meats altogether. I have also switched to almond milk, due to the fact that even the idea of my milk having pus in it completely turned me away from it. I do feel much better, and I do feel a little bit proud of myself, even though I couldn't switch to veganism right away. Tyler did say it was a long process.
Check out "What the Health" on Netflix, and tell me what you think of it, that is, unless you feel nightly meals at Mc Dee's and Taco Bell are totally healthy.
