Finding a Holiday movie that has a different story line from the rest of the holiday movies is difficult. Finding one that's enjoyable is even more difficult. Therefore, I've comprised a list of Holiday Movies that aren't your stereotypical holiday movies, but instead are hilarious comedies. Enjoy!
1. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
“Dad, this tree won’t fit in our back yard.” -Rusty Griswold
“It’s not going in the yard, Russ. It’s going in the living room.” -Clark Griswold
The comedic Griswold family is trying to pull off a memorable Christmas Eve dinner with their extended family. However, there is no such thing as a normal, calm Christmas in the Griswold Family household.
2. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
“We skip Christmas!” -Nora Krank
A comedy featuring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis as the Kranks family is avoiding Christmas this season to break away from tradition. However, when they find out their daughter is coming home for Christmas and is expecting a traditional Christmas party with her new boyfriend, their plans change. With the help from their neighbors and friends, the Kranks rush to assemble the last-minute Christmas Eve Party.
3. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
“You can mess with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids on Christmas.” - Kevin McCallister
It’s a holiday tradition in my house that sometime in December we always watch this movie. We all wanted to be as clever as Kevin with his tricks. Kevin is ‘accidentally’ left at home in New York City; however, he’s not completely alone. When running criminals Harry Lime and Marv Merchants plan to rob a store, they try to catch Kevin, but Kevin sets out traps in an effort to outsmart them.
4. Deck the Halls (2006)
“I want my house to be seen from space!” -Buddy Hall
Buddy Hall, the new neighbor in town, wants to do something that brings him joy, so he decides to decorate his house with lights so it could be seen from space. Buddy Hall gained public attention for an idea that his neighbor Steve Finch despises. Steve Finch used to own Christmas; he plans Christmas to the point and won’t let anyone destroy his plan, especially not Buddy Hall.
5. Elf (2003)
“Did you have to borrow a reindeer to get down here?” -Buddy
Will Ferrell stars as Buddy the Elf, who is sent to find whether he is really an “elf” or whether he was just raised by elves. He is on the journey to find who he really is when he tries to build a relationship with his father who’s on Santa’s naughty list.
This was my favorite movie when I was younger. In fact, I loved this movie so much that I would watch this movie every day in December and it would never get old.
Happy Holidays!
