My mom is a superhero, please let me go back

Trials Of Adulting

So, you might not be full-fledged adult yet, but you’re getting there. Most us are out of parents’ houses around 18-20, living on campus or with roommates in a rental place. You may not be completely on your own, but you’re responsible for your daily life. And after about a month, it turns more into “OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE”.

You have at one point screwed up the laundry, if you even bothered to do it. You have left a load in the washer for 3 days and it now smells like mildew. You ruined that one white shirt you wear to nice places and not even bleach can save it now. Folding does not exist: there are only clean and dirty hampers of clothing. You ran out of detergent and Dawn dish soap had to do the trick. How the hell did my mom do this, and in a timely manner? I still do not know. She must be wonder woman.

You have forgotten to pay at the one of the bills. You get that call from the internet company stating you have a balance of $350.00 due by Thursday or else all service will be suspended. You panic. Or worse, it’s the light bill and you’re setting up a lemonade stand to pay your debts and keep the AC, because if you ask your parents for money again, it is likely they will kill you.

You hear from every adult you’ve ever known to be careful with your credit and you don’t even know what the hell credit is. You just assume all the cars and appliances your parents bought were financed on promises, because you always had them. Then you check yours and its 520 because you basically have none, except for the internet bill that went to collections, and you think to yourself, I would like to go home.

Everything in the house is dirty. Everything. The dishes, your clothes, the couch, and please for the love of all that is holy, don’t look at the bathtub. That is the worst. You dedicate a day to get it all together, to clean and get your life together, but then you have errands and a forgotten assignment, and a shift at work that goes til midnight. The cleaning never got done, and it probably won’t for at least 3 weeks. You wish everything could be bleached.

Grocery shopping is a thing of the past. If it doesn’t come out of a box or the freezer section, it is likely you don’t even look at it. Cooking simply creates more mess and recipes take effort. Too much and you don’t have the time for it. Plus, who wants to pay $80.00 at the register when you’re just going to order a pizza tonight anyways. This. Is. Overrated.

Of course we all have the one friend, with her perfect, dainty, and safe apartment that she lives in with a friend. Everything is clean, there is legitimate décor, and they meal plan. Frozen casseroles and healthy snacks are nicely organized in the fridge. You stand in awe in their doorway because it will be a good five years before you are even remotely close to having it together like that. I deem it okay to hate those people a little bit.

The best part is, you’re forgiven. You have until about 27 before people start really judging you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
