My one and only regret about college is that I never had the chance to study abroad. I wanted to go and I know my dad would have gladly given it to me if he could…even though he went back and forth on the subject like the ball on a tennis court. But money was always an issue.
Now, going to work in Boston every day has suddenly fueled my desire to get out more. I developed a social life in college and now that I know what is out there for me, I want to see all of it that I can.
Disneyland in California
Yes I’ve never been to Disneyland, or Disney World for that matter. Growing up, my parents struggled financially, so we didn’t get to go on trips. When they finally did have the money, my mom was too sick to travel. Plus, my brother and I were too old to enjoy it. Then, I found out Disneyland has a Little Mermaid ride and a Beauty and the Beast inspired restaurant. Now, I’m game.
England
Because where else would a writer and reader go to other than the land some of the greatest literature was written?
Azores Islands, Portugal
My dad was born in the Azores, but no one in my immediate family has gone back to what my grandmother calls the Old Country since the 1980s. Dad used to talk about taking my brother and I back there for vacation a lot when I was younger, as a way to show us our roots. For reasons mentioned previously, that possibility has fallen to the wayside.
Ireland
Aside from Ireland making up a part of my gene pool, I want to go there because I’m fascinated by the culture and the landscape.
Scotland
I have a great-great-grandmother on my mom’s side from Scotland, but that’s really not why I want to go there. Like Ireland, I’m fascinated by the culture and the landscape, as well as the country’s history.
