Five Important Things to Remember While Traveling

To be honest, I've always been more of a homeboy. But I've been out of the country a good number of times, mostly to see family in India, and occasionally in other places like Canada or Europe for vacations. The following five are not the only things you should remember when you're going out of the country, but are definitely up there in terms of importance.

Keep your passport safe

When I was in Europe, I kept a pouch that contained my passport and had it around my neck tucked under my shirt. In India, it was kept in a safe at the hotel I stayed at. While losing your passport isn't necessary the end of the world, and it is possible to go to the US embassy for help. it's still an inconvenience that is better to avoid.

Be wary of the water

Whenever I'm in India, my parents tell me to avoid the tap water, or water that isn't bottled in general. In some countries, unfiltered water isn't necessary safe to drink, especially for people that aren't from the area. It can lead to an upset stomach, or several illness in the worst of cases. Even foods or food items that may contain water, such as the sauce used to flavor an order of fries, can be enough to cause sickness.

Watch out for people trying to sell you stuff

When you're a tourist in a new area, especially if you're visiting a place that's famous for having tourists in general, there's a good chance there will be people trying to sell you stuff. If you're ever offered something, such as a photograph or a souvenir, never assume that it's for free.

Have local cash

One of the first things you should do when you arrive in a new country is head to an ATM to convert your money into whatever the currency is of the place you're staying at. While some places may accept the currency from your home country, not all will.

Bring an adapter for electronics

It would be the worst thing to be on vacation and not be able to charge or use your electronics because you don't have an adapter with the correct voltage.

Happy traveling!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
