I Regret Traveling In My 20s

I'm a small town girl, with big dreams, and realized that the world is literally filled with so much knowledge that surpasses books and college. All my life I had dreamed of traveling the world. Yet there was always an excuse growing up as to why I was unable to travel.

Then I graduated from high school and realized how quickly those four years had gone by.

I began college and still I was dreaming of traveling overseas and three years went by and I had not traveled overseas yet, but I realized again how fast those three years went by. I realized I kept putting my little girl dreams on hold because life was happening.

Yet, I did not seem to settle with this thought in my own mind and felt something was missing. Finally, I decided to take the plunge and realized there would always be an excuse to put my little girl dreams on hold.

So I decided in my 20's that I would travel overseas and let me tell you, I regret it in a way. Here's why.

1. The culture

France, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, all in Europe, and each with their own culture. The culture in each country, each town, was so diverse, and amazing. I just couldn't contain my excitement when I walked through the streets of each city.

2. The food

If you are a foodie like me then trust me you must travel and eat as much food as possible. Food, in general, is amazing, but when you travel you get to try different main dishes. Original pizza, delicious tilapia, and taste delicious Heineken. Trust me you may gain weight, but it is worth it.

3. The feeling of being lost and unknown

There is some type of surreal feeling traveling somewhere and feeling lost and being on the receiving end of understanding the societal norm. I might be a nerd for this one, but I love being confused and learning about what is the social norm where I travel and love to understand those who are different from me.

4. Meeting new faces

I love, love, love meeting new faces. Sometimes you will never see that person again, but to hear their story and get to know who they are, where they are from, and what their story is, is refreshing. Getting to know individuals perspective on life helps you shape a new perspective on your life and it is a wonderful thing to grow.

5. Understanding the world around us

Media today has a tendency of portraying the world in a different lighting at times in a negative lighting. I think it is a great way to understand the world we live in by traveling. To see first-hand how life is lived in different regions. It's a beautiful thing to get a better understanding of the world by travel rather than just seeing it through the eyes of media.

6. Leaving the places you have adventured off to

It is bittersweet you don't want to leave the place you have lived for a while and have become accustomed too, but you also look forward to seeing your family back home. It becomes difficult when you begin to travel because though there are bittersweet moments you can't help, but want to travel some more.

You will find yourself looking for cheap flights, you'll be on travel blogs, Pinterest, and google looking for so many different places that you will want to travel too. You will work your tail off to afford the travel and always have the gut feeling that traveling will fill that void you feel is missing. Trust me the void will be filled when you travel and it's an amazing feeling.

In a way I kind of regret that I followed my little girl dreams because I have become defensive of different cultures, I have become open-minded to different social norms, and I have grown as a person, but most of all I have realized that traveling feeds the soul and it has been the best decision I have made for my self and my soul and I no longer will be able to just settle and conform to what the world around me is settling and conforming too.

I will always question what more there is out there because I know there is so much to this world then what meets the eye.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
