I'm the biggest meat eater known to man... at least I used to be. Steak, chicken wings, cheeseburgers (make it a double), YOU. NAME. IT. I ate it all and didn't discriminate. For years my diet consisted of 70% meat, 25% carbs and like 5% vegetables. I've never really been overweight in my life. I've always been fit and lived an active lifestyle. I've grown up a dancer and dabbled in sports when I was younger. When I got into high school I really got into the gym and weightlifting. I always considered myself pretty healthy for my age.
In October of this year, however, a lot changed. I went for a doctor visit, just a checkup and found out my cholesterol was through the roof. I couldn't believe it. My doctor basically told me that all the meat I was eating was slowly doing serious damage to my heart and that I needed to make a change. After that day, myself, along with my parents, went completely vegetarian. I attempted vegan for like a month and then quickly realized that cheese is my life and I can't exist without it; a little dramatic but true. It's been four months now that I have been without eating a carnivorous diet and to be quite honest I don't miss it.
Crazy to say that I don't miss the food I once adored but I really don't. I'll admit it was sort of weird at first only eating salad and vegetables and fruits. But the best part of not eating meat is that I have replaced it with another love of mine, PASTA, AND BREAD. Wow, yeah... I eat bread every day and I never regret it because it's my energy source. I love this diet and it's already done so much to change my life in just four short months.
For one, my cholesterol has improved significantly. I've lost a decent amount of weight (13 pounds) without even really trying. I sleep better and deeper at night and I have way more energy during the day than usual. I still to this day can't believe I did it, and that I don't miss all the meat. I won't lie and say that I don't sometimes sit and think about Wendy's chicken nuggets, but I really don't miss the taste of them all THAT much. I don't really think of myself as vegetarian, and I'm certainly not one of those people who will condemn you if you're not, however, I feel like I could advocate this diet all day long. In just four short months, it's changed my life.
