When I was deciding on transferring schools I always knew that CofC was my dream school, it was down to CofC and USC Columbia.
Deciding on where to go wasn’t really that difficult for me, USC was too big and USC Beaufort was too small.
Transferring as we all know is difficult as it is.
Transferring in the spring semester is even more difficult than I would’ve imagined.
Luckily for me, I had some pretty amazing roommates to make my transition easier. My first semester I went to University of South Carolina Beaufort; it was extremely different from the College. They had about 2,000 students compared to 12,000 at CofC.
Moving in my first day, I’ll admit it I was nervous and a little scared. It definitely helped that I lived in the same building as my best friend. If she wasn’t there, I think my transition would’ve been much more difficult.
It’s really different coming from a campus that takes three minutes to walk from one end to the other than going to a campus where it takes twenty minutes to go from one end to the other.
Coming to CofC has been a huge change in my academic career for the better. At first I was a little skeptical about transferring because I had already had my friend group at USCB and honestly, I was happy there but I knew I was making the right decision deep down.
Flash forward a year later and I love where I go to school, I wouldn’t change it for anything. There’s so much to do in Charleston, whether it’s shopping, going on a walk, going to the beach, or even just hanging out with friends. You’re never bored here, and if you are, you’re doing things wrong.
One thing I have learned over the years is to listen to your parents, they’re usually right, and mine were, transferring was hands down the best decision I have ever made.
