Coworkers should be the ones you look forward to seeing everyday and should make the day go as smoothly as possible even during the holidays. It's okay to get wrapped up in the holiday spirit. There's some of us that channel our inner Scrooge, and others who channel their inner Buddy the Elf during business hours. There are coworkers that get on nerves of other coworkers normally, but during the holidays, they become worse. This is how not get on your coworkers nerves during the holidays.
1. Don't brag on your organic/vegan dishes.
There's some of us that don't care whether or not they are organic or vegan. If we're having a Christmas party at the office, don't brag that your dish that you're bringing is organic or vegan. The rest of us tend not to care if you farmed the ingredients or "milked" the almond to get the almond milk creme used in your holiday dishes. It's wonderful that you thought to bring something to share with all of us but there is a point where you just sound like that you're above the rest of us.
2. Don't blast holiday music every second of the day.
You hear it on the radio near Halloween and see it in stores in August. Holiday music has a time and place to be played and that's after Thanksgiving, since no one ever thinks to sing a song about Thanksgiving. Most of the “holiday music” is about Christmas. Not everyone wants to hear holiday music 24/7 and has as much spirit as Buddy the Elf. Most of us enjoy listening to holiday music at some point but we shouldn't hear it blasting in the break room or office after Halloween. It becomes overkill after a while.
3.Don't brag on how much you are going to spend on gifts.
Yes, we get it that you have a higher
pay rate than some of us or have wealthy parents/ significant others that
allows you to buy “nicer gifts." This doesn't give you the
bragging rights to make us all feel like we are the dirt beneath your
shoes because we can't give name brand gifts. The majority of us have
to live paycheck to paycheck for various reasons. Sometimes we can't
save much money for the holidays because of various reasons. Do us
all a favor and please keep your mouth shut about the gifts you are
giving. Aren't the gifts supposed to be a surprise?
There are more ways to not get on your
coworkers nerves during the holidays, but I've noticed that these are
seen more than others. Holidays are a source of stress and anxiety
for a lot of people, and people like those who do the things above
can be a source of that. Some of us like to channel our inner
Scrooge, or Buddy the Elf. Regardless of what you channel, there
should be some level of respect for those around you. Happy Holidays
Everyone!
