So it’s summer and you’re missing your roomie (a.k.a. your bestie, soul mate, other half, favorite person in the world, soul sister/brother, OK, OK this is starting to sound like a married couple’s nickname list so let’s move on) or you’re mentally preparing yourself to meet a brand-new roomie because you had to put in for lottery (hopefully just because you’re a freshman and know nobody rather than an upperclassman who still knows nobody). Regardless, you want to find some activities to do with your roomie when you go on back to school in about two and a half months (summer’s whizzing by, am I right?).

1. Create a vision board.

Hey, maybe I’m just a planner, but I like to figure out a sort of bucket list for each year of college that my roomie and I are going to accomplish together.

2. Build a fort.

Come on, forts are great! Get some pillows, blankets, a scary movie, try not to burn your popcorn and set off the smoke detectors and snuggle up for a cozy night in.

3. Cook or bake something.

Who doesn’t like fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies (even if they’re from a box mix or, horror of horrors, the baker’s nightmare: a pre-made, prepackaged lump of cookie dough!)?

4. Start a new TV show together.

I sincerely hope you haven’t watched every TV show already that Netflix has to offer!

5. Take a class or do a club together.

Hey, power yoga, gardening, Calculus 101, Advanced Study of Shakespeare’s "Hamlet," you guys can struggle through it together!

6. Go on a hike!

Even if you think the great outdoors isn’t so great (it’ll be an even more bonding experience for the both of you as you both express your general disgust with the mud and flies and decide to turn back after five minutes), it’s always good to get some fresh air in your lungs before you dive back into your dorm to hibernate, study or watch Netflix. Also, it’ll make you feel like you did something spontaneous with your day and broke routine (you’ll sleep better at night, I promise: no more wavering doubts of am I actually just wasting my life? as you fall asleep).

7. Make a list of nicknames to call each other.

Make them as obnoxiously coupley as you want (I recommend French terms of endearment; mon petit chou-chou and ma cherie are rather mushy). Also, it's super fun to scream them across the campus at each other between classes.

8. Decorate your dorm together.

You have to admit, when you have a plan in place prior to move-in-day and you and your roommate have already agreed that your room’s going to be "Little Mermaid" themed, it really takes off some of the stress!

9. Go on a roomie date.

Whether you head to the bowling alley, that fancy restaurant (that you just barely scraped together enough money for) that you’re going to wear non-ripped jeans to (whew, getting snazzy my friend!), or you just head on down to the beach for a casual photoshoot, you need to try a roomie date!

10. Just plain hang out!

Yeah, sometimes your class schedules don’t match up or your roomie sleeps until noon (or you sleep until noon!), but when it comes down to it, you know you love your roomie and you really need to make time for them!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
