Here's the dilemma: you've run out of Netflix shows to watch or maybe you're going on a road trip or a run and you're just too tired of hearing the same playlist over and over again but you can't possibly go forth in silence.
Podcasts.
Yes, they still exist, and they are better than ever!
Podcasts are awesome because they allow you to listen to stories, journalism, talk shows or just about anything while going about your day. So, to get you started, here's seven of my favorite podcasts.
1. The Black Tapes - Think scary stories meet investigative journalism. "The Black Tapes" detail one team as they look into unsolved cases of the paranormal and the spooky things that start happening to them once they start this journey. It was voted one of iTunes top podcasts of 2015, and is highly addictive.
2. Tanis - This sister show of "The Black Tapes" is also investigative journalism but of a very different kind. It's hard to describe in a short blurb - the deep web meets myths and conspiracy theories as the team attempts to uncover the "Myth of Tanis." Spoiler alert: We're into season 2 now and still unsure of what exactly Tanis is.
3. Serial - Yes, "Serial." The famous murder podcast, especially if you come from Maryland. "Serial" details an investigation behind the murder of one Maryland teenager and her convicted killer, who claims he didn't do it. They follow the story as it comes to them and reports it back. This podcast has you on your seat waiting for the next episode.
4. Stuff You Should Know - Created by the masterminds at "How Stuff Works," "Stuff You Should Know" tells you well. . . stuff you should know. Everything from how the gender pay gap happens to how makeup works. It's all there for you.
5. TED Talks - Yes, they're available in podcast form too. TED is a nonprofit group with the purpose of sharing valuable ideas and fostering conversation between individuals. "TED Talks" detail everything from the life and times of some individuals, to specific research pertaining to our lives. Each one is different.
6. Limetown- Yet another slightly creepy journalism podcast. Lime town details one girl's search for the truth after an entire town of scientists goes missing without a trace. We'll uncover the truth about the town, the people, and maybe even where they all went.
7. On Being- This is a weekly podcast where the host talks with scientists, theologians, philosophers and other influential people on "the big questions". It's great to listen to if you have an interest in Philosophy, or just contemplate exactly what life is on a daily basis.
So there you have it. My favorite seven podcasts to get you started this summer. So the next time you're aimlessly scrolling through Netflix or your Spotify type in one of these bad boys and get started! You won't regret it!
