The holidays are finally here! Are you excited to finally have a break from the never-ending stress ball that is known to college students everywhere known as fall semester? I know I am. Now that you have some free time for yourself, sit down and enjoy a movie or eight! Luckily for you, I've narrowed down my top must-sees for every holiday season so you don't have to waste your long forgotten free time deciding what to watch.
1. "A Christmas Carol"
You can't or at least shouldn't go a holiday season without watching "A Christmas Carol." This Charles Dickens classic has been adapted in so many ways. My two favorite versions of the holiday classic are The Flintstones take on it, and the 2009 Disney remake. This must see features the famous Scrooge, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
2. "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas"
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a heart-warming movie that everyone can laugh at and love. It reminds us not to be "Grinches" and that the holidays have a way of bringing people together.
3. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
T"he Nightmare Before Christmas" is one of my favorite movies of all times. This dark yet lighthearted musical by the renowned Tim Burton makes you look at the holidays in a different way. Drink some hot cocoa and enjoy one of the best musicals of all time.
4. "Elf"
If you love laughing, "Elf" definitely tops the list. You'll surely get plenty of laughs while watching the hilarious Will Ferrell play Buddy the Elf in Manhattan! Buddy grew up as an elf, even though he was a human. It's very heart-warming when you see him adjust to the rugged New York lifestyle while meeting his biological father. This is a must-see. I promise you won't be disappointed.
5. "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" ("Les parapluies de Cherbourg")
This 1964 French musical is simply amazing. It was definitely ahead of its time and is not a cliché movie. This musical makes us question what we truly think is love and what makes us happy. The musical also shows us that life isn't as simple as we would want it to be and that reality versus expectations are completely different.
6. "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas"
Everyone loves Mickey Mouse! I don't go a holiday season without seeing Mickey tell us three great stories that reminds us of the meaning of the holidays. It's on Netflix. Don't pretend you don't want to see it—you know you'll smile afterwards.
7." The Holiday"
If you're into romantic comedies, "The Holiday" is definitely for you! This movie features some of Hollywood's biggest actors, such as Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black! "The Holiday" helps us realize what truly makes us happy and that sometimes you need to take that trip to remember who you are and what you really want out of life.
8. "The Santa Clause"
Last but certainly not least is "The Santa Clause!" This hilarious movie features the hilarious Tim Allen. We get to see him struggle as he becomes Santa Clause after he accidentally kills the original Santa Claus by accident!
Grab a blanket, hot chocolate and enjoy these holidays must-sees! Do you love any of the movies on my list or have any suggestions? Tell me in the comment section below!
