Whoever said that coming home from college for the summer is the worst thing in the world must not have been from Boston. Although college is a blast, I always look forward to my 3 months back home. Here are some must-dos if you ever find yourself in Boston in the summertime.
1. Visit the Boston Public Gardens
This is New England that we are talking about, so having a day with perfect weather is sometimes hard to come by. However, if you happen to stroll by the Boston Public Gardens on a beautiful summer day, take advantage of the swan boats, countless photo-ops, and the relaxing atmosphere. There is nothing quite like sitting in the gardens and taking in the beautiful view of Boston surrounding you.
2. Eat in the North End
If you like pasta, pizza and wine, then the North End is calling your name. The North End is filled with countless Italian restaurants, pastry shops and gelato stands that are guaranteed to put everyone in a food coma. There has never been a time where I have left the North End unsatisfied, or without a cannoli (or two) from Mike's Pastry.
3. Spend Your Life Savings On Newbury Street
If you are like me and spend most of your weekdays working, then it always feels nice to treat yourself every once in a while. There is no better place to do that than on Newbury Street. From LF to T.J. Maxx, this street has it all. There is no way that you won't find what you need after a day of shopping on Newbury Street. On top of all the shops, after a long day of shopping there are countless restaurants to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink or meal.
4. Go To A Red Sox Game
Some of my greatest memories in Boston have taken place atFenway Park. Even if you aren't the world's biggest baseball fan, being at Fenway is such an exciting and memorable experience. Although tickets can sometimes be expensive, nothing is more worth it than singing Sweet Caroline surrounded by thousands of other people, enjoying a Fenway Frank, or just being in the Fenway atmosphere. And hey, you might even get lucky and get featured on the Jumbotron!
5. Visit Faneuil Hall
Faneuil Hall has always been my favorite place in Boston for many reasons, but mainly because it has it all. From restaurants to shopping to live entertainment, there is no doubt that Faneuil Hall is a must-see when you are in Boston. I mean, what sounds better than walking through Quincy Market with 50+ dining opportunities? If you are feeling touristy, there's no better place for you than Faneuil Hall.
6. Walk the Freedom Trail
One of the great things about Boston is all of its history, and you can't really get much more history than by walking the Freedom Trail. Explore countless museums and historic landmarks on this 2.5 mile route through downtown Boston and take a trip back in time by visiting the Paul Revere House, the Old North Church and more.
