What major did you fail out of before majoring in communications? What kind of job can you even get with that? So like, you want to be on the news or something? These are just the top three most annoying things you hear all the time as a communication major. Believe it or not, it is actually just as much work and effort as your degree!

1. What Major Did You Fail Out Of First?

This takes the cake for me. People just assume that you don't come into college with the aspirations of majoring in communications. First of all, I didn't have to fail out of anything to want to be in it, I LOVE IT. I am so glad I chose this, In my opinion, it is much more rewarding for ME to be in this major. I would be a total hypocrite if I were to dump on other majors.

2. So Basically You're Just Studying Social Media?

NO. As a communication major, I love social media just as much as the next person. This DOES NOT mean I am going to college to study social media. Communication is much more than learning how to read and write. I believe I learned how to do that in the third grade. I also believe I started my Facebook page in the seventh grade. Please just don't ask this question, I'll probably respond with this look.

3. What Other Jobs Are There Besides News?

Plenty of them. I'll provide you with a list: Global Marketing Manager, Public Relations, Director of Strategy, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Account Manager and even an Executive Producer. And that is only the tip of the iceberg. Yes, you can work in news, but it is definitely not the only option.

4. Don't You Already Know How To Communicate Though?

Nope. I can't read, or write or even talk. (Pause to enjoy all of my sarcasm... OK, continue.) Again, communication is not only learning how to do those things, it is the matter of learning how to better yourself in not only those aspects, but learning to appeal to different demographics, learning how to market yourself and other products, learning how to speak informatively, persuasively, and even impromptu. Communications is much more than talking.

5. "I Wish I Had An Easy Major." Yeah, Me Too.

Yeah, it may be a little easier than rocket science, but don't worry, we have just about as many late nights as you do, I promise. it usually results in this.

6. Lastly, Chose Your Words Wisely When Insulting Our Education.

Sincerely, all communications majors.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
