I don't know anyone who would willingly go into a long distance relationship but I did and it was the best decision I've ever made! I've been with my boyfriend for four years and we have been long distance for three of those years. People always ask me what do we do to keep our relationship going and I always reply love.

Not everyone isn't the type of person who can get into a long distance relationship because it takes patience, trust, consistency, and hard work. It was a tough decision to make but I knew that he was someone who I could see myself with for the long haul so I went for it. Here are the top five characteristics you should make sure you and your partner have before you start your journey on long distance loving!

1. Patience

Patience. Patience. Patience! I can not say this enough! You will not be able to see your partner as often as you want so it is imperative you save your money as much money as possible so you will be able to see them. The longer the distance the more money you should have saved up so you will be able to have lots of fun together.

2. Communication

Always make sure you have your phone on you because depending on the distance there may be a time difference and you want to make sure you guys talk a lot to keep the connection alive. Let him/her know when you have a problem immediately and drop everything to discuss it because you won't be able to see them in person so you have to squash the drama fast. Also make sure you take advantage of technology and use FaceTime, skype, snap chat, instagram...etc. Anything you need to use to make sure that you guys are always connected.

3. Trust

Trust is important in any relationship but it's harder when the person can't always be there or talk. It is imperative that you trust the person you're dating before the long distance because if you don't, a lot of your arguments will be over nothing and you'll risk losing your partner over a misunderstanding.

4. Consistency

Be consistent and dependable! Since you won't be able to see the person often it is important to call or be on FaceTime when you said you would. Your partner is more likely to trust you and feel better about the distance if you are consistent.

5. Hard work

It takes a lot of work to ensure your partner is happy and feels emotionally connected with you at all times. It is worth it when you are with the right person.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
