Top 5 Things I'll Miss About Elon Over The Summer
Elon University

I can honestly say that sophomore year at Elon was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. As finals are approaching and bags are being packed, I can’t help but have a sinking feeling in my stomach as I think about how my college experience is already half over. Sophomore year flew by even faster than freshman year did, and part of me is in complete denial about leaving. As leaving for summer gets closer day-by-day, here are the top five things I know everyone will miss about Elon while away for the summer:

1. Living with your best friends.

I can’t imagine not having my best friends one room or apartment building away for the next three months. Some of my favorite memories from this year are the ones where we’ve stayed up until 3 a.m. all just laughing and hanging out with each other. Living with your best friends means that there is always someone around to talk to, hang out with, get food with, get ready with, you name it. The thought of living at home without them (and their closets) is one that I know I don’t want to be real.

2. The beautiful North Carolina weather.

Even amidst finals and tests and projects, there is something about the North Carolina sun that just makes everyone happy. I love walking through Elon’s beautiful campus and seeing all of the flowers in full bloom. Not needing to drive is amazing because it helps to clear my head, save gas money and adds a little bit of exercise all in one!

3. Always meeting new people.

College allows you to meet a new friendly face wherever you go. Coming from a small town in Connecticut, I know I won’t have the same opportunity to meet as many new people as I do on a regular basis at Elon.

4. The independence and freedom.

As much as I can’t wait to be home with my mom (please don’t hate me for this) there’s no doubt in my mind that I will miss being able to go out and do whatever I want to without having to check in with anyone or answer 20 questions about my plans. Whether it is making a late night food run or sleeping in until the afternoon, I know that I’ll miss the freedom and the overall college atmosphere.

5. Always having something to do.

College life is never boring, especially at Elon. There is always something fun happening and always something you could be doing. Instead, summer at home is going to consist of internships and Netflix. I know I’ll miss my everyday activities and adventures with my best friends.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
