After much research, I have found the top 5 side dishes to bring this Thanksgiving! The following recipes are crowd favorites, so if you are attending a significant other’s Thanksgiving for the first time, or this is your first year your parents asked you to contribute- this article is for you!
1. Cheesy Potatoes.
If you are like the majority of Americans, you love potatoes and you love cheese. Cheesy potatoes is a classic Thanksgiving must. It is pretty easy to make! All you need is 2 lbs of Russet potatoes, 1/4 cup of butter, 1/4 of all-purpose flour, 1 & 1/2 cups of nonfat milk, salt, pepper, and 8 oz of cheese!! It’s delicious and fairly easy to make.
2. Green bean Casserole.
This is my side dish for the year! I have to eat dairy and gluten free, but I was even able to find a really great recipe to accommodate to that! This dish is another crowd favorite, and again super easy to prep and make. For this dish, you need 1 can of Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup, 1/2 cup of milk, a little black pepper, 4 cups of cooked green beans! It’s a yummy balance of veggie and cream.
3. Dinner rolls or crescents with cranberry sauce!
The bread is easy to get and warm up, and the cranberry sauce is pretty easy to make as well! All you’ll need is 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 of fresh or frozen cranberries, and a strip of lemon or orange zest! It’s savory and sweet.
4. Homemade Mac n Cheese!
Again, Thanksgiving is all about the carbs! Making a tasty mac and cheese is simple and will make everyone at the table happy. For this, you need butter, milk, a bag of shredded cheese (or 2 if you want to include different cheeses) a box of cooked penne pasta, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and flour! As the pasta cooks, you can combine all the other ingredients in a pan to create the cheesy sauce. Yummy!
5. Stuffing or dressing!
This recipe is a little more advanced, but actually pretty easy assemble. For this dish, you need 3/4 cup of butter, 2 large celery stalks, 1 medium onion, 9 cups of bread cubes, 1 &1/2 teaspoons of thyme leaves, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 ground sage, and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper! The night before, you cut up the bread into small cubes (or you can buy bread already cubed!) Leave the bread out overnight to dry out. The day of, you’ll chop up the celery and onion and toss all the ingredients into butter in a dutch oven. Drench the bread and bake!
I am looking forward to enjoying each and every one of these dishes this Thanksgiving! Now I want to know- which is your favorite dish?
