The Top 5 Struggles Of Freshman Dorm Shopping

Let's be real, we're all totally freaking out right now.

Let's be completely honest, every incoming freshman is probably at least a little stressed about move-in day. I'm embarrassed at how many pins I have on my college Pinterest board(s). With hundreds of "What To Bring" lists floating around, how can you keep anything straight?? On top of that, everyone wants to have that perfect Pintrest worthy room (mostly girls, but definitely guys too). There are so many things you need to worry about all while trying to salvage your summer social life. At times move-in becomes extremely daunting, but never forget that you're not in it alone, here's a few things I bet we all relate to:

1. So. Many. Bedding. Options.

Between Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Kohl's, Urban, Pottery Barn Teen, and many more, there are literally thousands of comforters and duvets to choose from.

2. Coordinating

If you decided to go random with your housing, you probably just got, or are still waiting on, your housing assignments. Not knowing where you're living and who you're living with can be nerve wracking. Who is going to bring the Keurig? Microwave? Fridge? Rug? Are you doing the same color scheme? How do you want to set the room up? These are all important things to consider, don't be afraid to be annoying, keep asking questions and figure everything out together.

3. You keep finding new things you need

When I first started dorm shopping, I had no idea how much stuff I was going to need. When you're living at home, you don't necessarily think about laundry detergent and tissues, but you need them for your room.

4. Finding good storage solutions

If you don't know how big your dorm is, or how it will be arranged, finding practical storage is difficult. Walking into IKEA or even the dorm section of Target can be overwhelming. Try to find pictures and specs of rooms in your building and just do your best (I'm still figuring this one out too).

5. Deciding how to decorate

There are so many ways to personalize a dorm room. You can have a theme like Disney or Harry Potter, you can hang up artsy quotes and fairy lights, you can bring a thousand pictures, or literally anything else. You should decorate your space so it feels like home, don't worry about trying to have the cutest room on your floor.

Moral of the story is, get whatever YOU need to live in college and don't freak out. Take deep breaths and bring your mom with you to Target so she can remind you of everything you need. If you're really stuck, Bed Bath & Beyond has a really helpful packing list. Good luck everyone!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
