Over the past few months, multiple news stories have hit the media, shocking and silencing many. This past week, however, has made most of those stories seem like years ago. The week of July 16 was a very busy week, with curveballs being thrown left and right at not only politics, but arts & entertainment and crime. Here are the top five stories from last week.

5. McCain Diagnosed with Cancer

Senator John McCain, age 80, has recently been diagnosed with a primary glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor. He underwent surgery Friday, July 14, and doctors are saying he is recovering "amazingly well." This type of cancer is extremely aggressive and attacks the brain and spinal cord. A 2009 study shows that 10% of patients with this type of cancer can live with it for more than five years. Former President Obama made a statement about McCain's cancer, saying, "Cancer doesn't know what it's up against. Give it hell, John." With the upcoming health care bill, many are saying this is a bad time for him to get cancer. Well, he can't really control cancer inside of him, now can he?

4. Lead Singer of Linkin Park Found Dead

Chester Bennington, the lead singer of the rock band, Linkin Park, was found dead in his home July 20, 2017. News of his death has shocked the music world, especially since his band just released an album this past May. It seems that his death was a suicide, but no note was left to explain why. All that's left to do is mourn the loss of a musical icon.

If you or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts, please contact the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Line at 800-273-8255.

3. Trump's Saturday Tweet Storm

On July 22, 2017, President Donald Trump went off on another tweet rant. This week continues to show Trump accusing the media of producing fake news. This time the leak about his questioning of whether or not he is able to pardon himself and his family. He then went on to tweet about how "ObamaCare is dead and the Democrats are obstructionists..." All in all, it was a very busy morning for Mr. Trump.

2. OJ Walks Free

Former football player OJ Simpson is let out of prison on parole. For those of you who won't know, he was put on trial for the murder of his ex-wife. He was found not-guilty, but many believe that he should not have walked free. He was in jail for armed robbery and kidnapping, sentenced to 33 years with a chance of parole after nine. At the age on 70, he will move to Florida and hopefully not involve himself with any more criminal activities.

1. Spicer Resigns

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer has decided to resign. The media has jumped on this story, questioning why he would decide to do so now. It seems that he resigned after Trump appointed Anthony Scaramucci as the White House communications director. The two were seen hugging stiffly as if to try and show they are keeping the peace. In an interview, Spicer says he has no regrets. All that's left to do now is speculate.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
