The Works

Aaannnnddddd...... IT'S BREAD WEEK, PEOPLE!

Bread Week on GBBO is one of the most feared weeks for the contestants. Paul Hollywood (real name) is the 'King of Bread' and is always unfiltered with his opinions on this week. This episode was no exception at all .

So, here we go, My Top 5 Moments of The Great British Bake Off Week 3: Bread Week.

Signature Bake: Chocolate Loaf

Technical Bake: Dampfnudel (German steamed buns)

Showstopper Bake: Savory Plaited Centerpiece

1. SUE IS BACK!

Again, I adore Mel, but there is something about the two of them together...makin' jokes, asking really insightful questions about baking, and JUST CALMING THE BAKERS DOWN. They are, without fail, the best.

2. When Candice got upset about her chocolate loaf.

So, Candice got a little upset when her delicious sounding (she made Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and Pecan Brittle Brioche Loaf) was actually raw. When she began to get teary about it, Paul and Mary told her that everything was okay. This was one of the sweetest moments of the whole episode. Also, a fellow contestant, Rav, gave her a huge hug. I love these people.

Also, CANDICE IS KILLING IT WITH THESE LIP COLORS.

3. When a single prove paid off for Andrew .

So, as I talked about last week, I'm minorly obsessed with Andrew Smyth, the precious ginger baker. This week, for his Signature Bake, he made a Chocolate Barmbrack Bread, based on a traditional Halloween bread from Ireland. He defied Paul's warnings about not knocking back the bread and going for a second prove (in quick summary: bread- especially yeasted bread, has to be 'proved' or set aside to rise in a warm place- on GBBO, a proving drawer; for me, a bowl with a hot towel on top of it). Typically, you prove once, knock it back, and prove it a second time. Andrew went for one long prove, a move with which Paul disagreed. However, in a rare moment for GBBO, Paul was wrong and Andrew's bread was delicious .

Also, is everyone falling in love with Andrew? Just me? Oh, okay.

4. We have to talk about Tom's plaited loaf.

Okay, okay, okay... Tom made a rather phallic-looking loaf...purely by accident. What he made was the Jörmungandr and Mjölnir from Nordic mythology. However, we all know what it looked like. He insisted it looked like a 'T' because his mum was watching. Sure, Tom .

I mean, really.

5. When Tom was truly surprised that he won.

Sue made a very unsubtle hint toward his being Star Baker, but he was genuinely surprised and so genuinely supported by all of his fellow bakers, remind us all why this is the best show on television.

Next week it's on to a GBBO first: BATTER WEEK! I'm so excited!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
