I've been without a chemical relaxer for about 6 years and have gone through the ringer with my hair. I was definitely a product junkie at one point, trying just about anything that anyone recommended to me and then some. It was hell. And I'm so glad that I've grown out of that stage.

After seven long years of trial and error, I've finally narrowed my favorite hair care brands that I use in rotation and will definitely stick with. These natural hair care brands have not failed me yet and hopefully you can add these to your holy grail as well.

1. Jane Carter

Jane Carter's brand has been part of my regimen since I first went natural, seven years ago. At risk of sounding like a super fan-girl, I will admit that I regularly tweet Jane Carter how appreciative I am for her products. She has several collections for all curly hair types, so you will definitely find what your specific hair texture needs. My hair has fallen head-over-heels for the frizz free styling smoother and hair masque from Jane's Healthy Hair collection. Another winning combo for moisture and that's what I'm all about.

2. Oyin Handmade

I was late to the Oyin Handmade party and I don't know if I'll ever forgive myself for sleeping on this brand. The Honey Dew leave-in conditioner is lightweight and while I usually cringe at that word, I was surprised at how well it moisturized my hair. I instantly fell in love with their herbal tonic, Juices and Berries. My hair usually scoffs at liquid leave-in sprays, but Oyin's herbal tonic made me a believer. A couple of spritzes of Juices and Berries, and poof! Dryness is gone and my curls are popping!

3. EDEN BodyWorks

Although both of these products have recently become new favorites of mine, they have earned their spot on my holy grail list nonetheless. My hair CANNOT survive without the leave-in conditioner and curl defining creme from Eden BodyWorks. I can use those two products and my hair is left moisturized and frizz-free for the week. If you're a low-maintenance natural, like myself, you can trust this duo to get the job done and then some!

Whether you're a product junkie or a minimalist natural,I highly suggest you try some products from these wonderful, black-owned companies! With any of these three amazing brands, you are guaranteed to make heads turn and people ask "What do you use on your hair?!"

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
