We've all been there. We've all done that...It's been two weeks since I have felt strange and not like the usual happy go lucky spirited person I usually am. I found myself roaming over old, hidden thoughts that I have kept in the back of my mind for a long time. I felt disconnected with the world and often felt like giving up in life. I felt like I was in outer space just floating by with all the planets that are revolving around. Of course I would turn to the usual binging on Netflix and reading for help. But, oftentimes I felt that wasn't enough and I still had to find another escape route. I needed something that would distract me and make me feel sane again. The word sane is a really complex word. Someone can think they feel sane when in reality they actually don't (AKA that person would be me).
The thing about feeling the blues is that it is as if someone is in a large bubble and just can't get out. Whatever they may do to pop the bubble may not work and they would end up feeling even more desperate to get out. We all have our ways of popping this enormous bubble that can fit a person. Some of us may rely on watching Disney movies while others may go out and get comfort food. What I noticed about this bubble is that there are different ways of popping it but there isn't one way that actually can pop the bubble enough for us to come out of it and breathe life again. This is when I started listening to songs that fit how I am feeling and that I can relate to. They say music is a universal language and I have been able to learn one sect of that language. These are some of the songs that makes up the words of this language:
"24K Magic" by Bruno Mars- This is an upbeat song that can definitely get people in the mood for grooving and cheer them up. It's just one of those songs that are upbeat enough to be used as an opening for the game shows you see on television!
"I Gotta Feeling" by The Black Eyed Peas- Also known for its party anthem like vibe that it gives off, this song is sure to lighten up the mood in your mind too! Pair it with some refreshments such as a nice cold glass of a unicorn frappuccino and be sure to groove out in some colorful sunglasses and feathered boas! This song is perfect for having a dance session in your own room, once you feel happy enough to do so.
"Happy" by Pharell Williams- Even the word "happy" is in the title of this song! This song has a catchy tune that can probably end up getting stuck in your head. If you listen to it more and more, you might even end up singing along to it! By the way, have you watched the music video? If you aren't, you're going to get FOMO or "Fear of Missing Out".
"Love No More" by Loud Luxury ft. Anders- If the reason for your blues is because of heartbreak, then this is the song for you! Forget about your ex-boyfriend or girlfriend and let it all out with the power of electronic music! You won't regret listening to this song after your heartbreak.
"High Hopes" by Panic! At the Disco- Feeling sad but want to think of things in a more positive light? Then, try listening to this empowering song! This song is known for its progressive lyrics that bring on a feeling of becoming a winner in life.
"Who Says" by Selena Gomez- If the cause of your blues is due to insecure feelings about yourself, then tune in to the lyrics of this song. Some of the lyrics of the song such as "Who says, Who says you're not perfect, Who says you're not worth it" bring light to solving the problem with insecurity. So, who says you're not going to feel happy again and sing to the lyrics of this song?
"ME" by Taylor Swift (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco)- This song is perfect for boosting self esteem, which is one of the reasons why people may feel blue (since they lack self esteem in themselves). If you want, you could also watch the music video to this song, which displays cheerful scenes with a colorful, cute aesthetic.
"Put Your Hearts Up" by Ariana Grande- If you want to cure your blues with the power of kindness, then this song is it. Maybe you are sad about something that needs to be fixed in this world, such as Climate Change or FGM (Female Genital Mutilation). This song will definitely lift you up enough to get started on your plan to spread good to the world.
"Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities- If the cause of your blues is because of the quarantine and the pandemic, this song is something that you should give a try. This is a song that is perfect for the quarantining mood. Who doesn't want to stay "safe and sound" during quarantine?
"Shut Up and Dance" by WALK THE MOON- Who wants to "shut up and dance" so they can escape their blues? I'm sure many people would, given the things that are happening in this world that are just adding on to the blues we might have.
I used to struggle with feeling sad quite a bit growing up, but I always had a friend called "music" who I can rely on. They would help cheer me up and try to make me feel better. I am grateful for finding "music", because if I didn't, then I would realize how helpful and powerful it can be...Music was beside my side and there whenever I needed it (of course if my laptop or phone was out of battery, then it wouldn't be there but..)
