Top 10 Questions College Kids Get At The Holidays

We all love our families dearly and can’t wait to see them when we get home for the holidays. But with seeing family we all know what that means, the classic questions we get asked every time they see us.

1. How is school going?

School WAS great, but I’m on break now. Yeah, we got off last week. Yes, my grades were good. Finals sucked but I lived.

2. Why don't you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?

The most famous question. Grandma, we love you dearly, but we really don’t want to talk about this. We don’t have time for a relationship. It’s very hard to meet people in college and believe me we would, but we barely have time to call our parents so how are we going to give any attention to another human.

3. How are all of your friends doing?

They are all good, they ask about you a lot. I miss them already, I’m not sure how I am supposed to live for a month without them no more than 50 feet away from me at all times.

4. Did You Take Finals? How Did They Go, Do You Think You Did Well?

Im sorry, what? Finals? Oh, right, those tests we literally took a week ago. We don’t know, We’ve blocked it out already. We don’t want to think about it, we just want to think about how many Christmas cookies we’re going to eat today.

5. What Are You Going To Do Over Break?

You can bet your girl is gonna be in bed sleeping till 12pm every day and binge watching the newest Netflix series. But of course there is going to be plenty of time to hang out with friends from home.

6. What classes are you taking next semester?

We just got home, this is break. BREAK. If you truly love us, don’t make us think about next semester. We just got done with one, let us have a month of no stress. Please and thank you.

7. Are you working over break?

A yes or no question. I mean, we all are broke college students right? We need money for food and textbooks because that's definitely what we kids spend our money on right! But let’s be real, how many of us want to spend our break working. Money is nice though.

8. How’s the food at school?

We literally have been dreaming of mom’s cooking and can basically smell it in our dreams. That sums it all up right there.

9. Did you miss your parents?

A few years ago we would have never dared to admit this, we all just would say no. But now, yes. We miss them more than anything and as amazing as school is, we all get a little homesick from time to time.

10. Are you happy to be home?

YES. We have been counting down the days on our little whiteboards in our dorm rooms. We are SO happy to be home, you have no idea.

Thank God it’s almost Winter Break. Only 2 more weeks!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
