1. A printer.
I was one of the many people who thought I'd just go to the library to print. I couldn't have been more wrong.
If you procrastinate even a little bit, having a printer can be the determining factor in whether or not your paper is turned in on time. You may think you have it under control, but you'll find yourself struggling to get to the library before class, only to find that the line for printing is far too long anyway.
2. An extra long phone charger.
You would think that with dorm rooms being so small this wouldn't be an issue, but if you happen to have you bed lofted, or very limited power outlet access it can be a huge help. The longer your charger the better, even if it does reach from one end of your room to the other.
3. An electric kettle.
I love to drink tea, but I had no way to warm up the water. I ended up having to go to the basement where our only kitchen was, or I used the microwave. An electric kettle is way better for all of your tea, ramen and hot chocolate needs! Just make sure your school allows them.
4. A vacuum.
I had a dust pan and broom, but the carpets in my room always seemed to get neglected. A small vacuum is the perfect way to do quick tidy up and to keep your room clean.
5. A duster.
My goodness, that dust really does build up fast. Sometimes paper towels and all purpose cleaner just aren't good enough to get the job done.
6. An indoor/outdoor blanket.
It's really an essential for every college student. Whether you're heading for a picnic at a local park, or just hanging out on the quad, you and your friends will appreciate having somewhere to sit besides the grass.
7. A steamer.
Theres always that one shirt that you love but always gets wrinkled, or the impromptu interview you totally weren't prepared for. I'm certainly not about to pull out an ironing board, a steamer is faster and it takes up less space.
8. A huge fan.
I hate to break it to you, but your little baby fan isn't going to cut it. Dorms can get hot, even in the winter.
9. Rain gear.
It will rain at the most inconvenient times so it's best to be prepared. Boots, coat, umbrella. Take my word for it when I say you need all three.
10. Microwave safe bowls and plates.
I bought the cheapest plates I could find without thinking to check if they could go in the microwave. Spoiler alert: they couldn't. Chances are, if you're using a plate or bowl in your room, you're probably cooking freezer snacks. Just check the dishes before you buy them.
