To Those Random Thoughts

This article goes out to those times when you're in the shower questioning pretty much all of the little things about life.

Before starting this article, I'd like to credit my friend, and consistent reader, Arvin "Ryne" Rubio for the article idea and for some of the ideas presented in this article.

I didn't really know what to write about when I first started this document, but then I looked at the ground and I saw a pair of underwear (let's just say I didn't do laundry for a week). This got me thinking: "why is it called a pair of underwear if it's only one item? Is it because there are two leg holes? Or do they sew two parts together?"

So anyway, after that little fiasco, I decided to just write out a list of a bunch of thoughts that go through my head; whether I'm driving, if my mind is racing at 9,999 miles per hour because of caffiene or taking a shower (almost always when I have a lot of random thoughts). Some of them may spark controversy, some of them may spark a revolution. Whatever happens, I hope it sparks some kind of discussion.

Here we go:

- How come our feet smell but our noses run?

- When I was a kid, I saw two carpenters walk up into my attic, and I never saw them come down. The more I think about it, I may have fallen asleep. But what if I didn't, and those two carpenters were actually two subletters for my house? I don't know man.

- *the entire script of The Bee movie*

- Why do people hate Nickleback so much? They definitely aren't the best band around, but I feel like there's far worse.

- It would be selfish to think that we are the only intelligent life forms in a universe so vast and large. So, why won't anyone visit us?

- The root of all fear is actually just a lack of knowledge. Scared of heights? Because you don't know what it feels like to fall. Scared of love? Because you don't know how to open yourself up to others. Scared of snakes? They're more afraid of you.

- This shower is so warm and the outside is so cold. ...5 more minutes.

- Dang it, I underestimated how long it takes me to get ready... Shouldn't have taken that extra 5 minutes in the shower...

- Why is it called the Midwest if we're Midwest AND Mideast? Shouldn't it just be called the mid or something?

- Ever see those grey dots in your eyes when you're looking at something bright?

- If everyone uses a #2 pencil, why is it called #2?

- Speaking of pencils, has anyone ever used a pencil or lead that isn't #2??

- Why does Root Beer have the word "Root" in it?

So to those random thoughts that we all come up with at the most, well, random times, here is a cheers to you for stimulating my brain and keeping me always curious.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
