To The Students Feeling Sick and Stressed

Feeling sick is not fun, but Jesus is with you the whole way through.

It's that time of year again. You know, the time when everyone around you is getting sick? What a fun time...

Something I have learned while being a college student is getting sick is literally one of the worse things to ever happen to you, especially during a test week or finals week. Like your body doesn't want to do anything but rest, but you have 35 things to do by the end of the week.

About a couple of weeks ago, I woke up with the worst headache and my nose was running like a river. I thought "oh it's just a cold, it will be gone by tomorrow." Welp, the next day, woke up even worse than the day before. Great... So, I did the only thing I thought I could do, which was going to the doctor. I went to the doctor, and they told me I had a severe sinus infection.

Well, something I have learned about sinus infections over the days that I was sick is that there isn't really one correct way to treat a sinus infection. It's different for everyone. You kind of have to figure out what works for you and that might be different treatment for someone else.

However, even when you feel at your lowest or weakest moment, you are not alone in this. Even when I was sick, my friends and classmates still showed me so much kindness by bringing me soup/hot chocolate/medicine/etc. And by the time I started feeling better, some of my other friends started feeling sick too.

Satan will try to put up blocks in the road to tear us down, but Jesus reminds us of His kindness and the kindness of others, that we are not alone in this.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30

Praying for each of you that reads this. Hope that you can fight whatever battle or obstacle is standing in front of you right now, and that you will remember you are not alone in this fight. Jesus came to save you and loves you. Remember His kindness and goodness even when the darkness seems to be around you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
