An open letter to the strongest women I know... My mother!

I always told myself I wanted to be just like my mom when I grew up. Well, here I am at the age of 20 and I'm turning into a mini version of my mom. Some might say turning into your mom is not a good thing, but in my case it is! My mother is the strongest, most outgoing, and caring woman I know!

Everyone absolutely adores my mother, she will do anything for anyone! She’s had some hard patches in life but still woke up every morning with a smile on her face. My mom puts everyone before herself - she goes without so someone else can have what they need. She is always the first one to help someone else when they are down.

Some might say being like your mom isn’t a good thing. Well, I sometimes think the same thing and then I stop and realize being like my mom is a great thing! I love that people call me a mini version of my mom because that’s a compliment - she’s beautiful and so smart! I don't really know why some people wouldn't want to be like their moms. I know in some cases being like your mom is a bad thing, but in my case, being like my mom is an AMAZING thing!

We might fight sometimes, but that’s okay because at the end of the day, I still love you. Often times we fight because we are so much alike; our attitudes just don’t mix together very well. I know that the last few months have not been easy on you, or any of us for that matter, but I want you to know that I am here with you every step of the way.

I also want to thank you. I want to thank you for everything you do for me. If it wasn’t for all your help and support, I don’t know where I would be right now. You were always there to support me in middle school when I played field hockey - you came to every game even if I didn't play for some of the game. You still stayed and watched and cheered us on. Or when we moved and I wanted to be a cheerleader! I know deep down you were not impressed because you knew what was about to happen, me coming home and just practicing cheers for hours in my room yelling and jumping! I won't even get you started on softball season other than the fact that I am glad you supported me through it for the most part.

Without all your support, I don't know if I would be the strong and loving woman I am today. I also want to say thank you for never giving up on me even when I know you wanted to. You make little jokes about me all the time and I know I get upset about them sometimes, but in reality, I love them because i don’t know what i would do if you didn’t make them!

I love you mom, thank you for everything!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
